Hello!
(sorry for writing in english, mein deutsch ist nicht so gut...)
I'm a DDR player from sweden that recently moved to Berlin.
I think it's a shame that there are no arcade machines here, so i have serious plans to do something about it....
Are there many people in Berlin playing DDR?
Please respond to this thread if you are a player and want a machine in Berlin.
Does anyone have some suggestions on where to put the machine? (Im thinking some bowling hall, video-rental shop or similar public place that's open late hours aswell as in the daytime, maybe some major u-bahn station?...)
Also, what would you prefer, DDR extreme or ITG2?
Please let me know what you people think, im really serious about this, have the money, and has already got offered to buy a machine for a reasonable price.
Also, would anyone be interested in an pop'n music arcade machine?
And another thing, aren't there ANY arcade halls in Berlin AT ALL?

Arcade halls as known from abroad are uncommon in .de due to legislature. Most people don't even know exactly what is meant by that term, and the word is spoiled by connotation with "fruit machines".
Underground stations are a bad idea, there will be vandalism on the first day. Deciding between DDR Ex and ITG2 isn't easy for me, but in the end I think that ITG2 is more future safe. Pop'n or IIDX would be splendid.

well, the IIDX machines are more expensive than a DDR extreme, and i don't think they would attract enough people to make it worth buying. (and i also prefer pop'n over iidx + the cabinets are much cheaper)
But if the DDR machine works well, my next step will probably be a pop'n and or some good cheaper games (third strike for example), and if that works too, i wouldn't really mind starting up a bemani-focused arcade.

but thats just a distant dream, so lets focus on the first step.
I really want a DDR-machine in Berlin, and im ready to buy one, but i just need to know that it will pay for itself in the long run...
I could get a (modded) ITG2 for about the same price as a DDR-extreme, but i personally prefer DDR over ITG, and i can always upgrade the DDR to ITG, or get another one if i feel there's a demand for it.
And yes, a u-bhf is not a good idea, what i was thinking was more like upstairs at the alexanderplatz-station or somethin similar, but i think it will be hard to get permit to place it there.
jag ska lära mig mer tyska!

due to the fact, that "Machine Dance" is an official Dance discipline by IDO (International Dance Organization) since March, 1st 2006,
and the upcoming german national championships, where ITG2.0 is played,
and the upcoming World Championships, where also ITG 2.0 is played
i suggest you highly not to invest into an old system.
ITG 2.0 will be the Future MAchine.
btw:
ITG 2.0 ist the only Arcade Machine which is approved for use by IDO for any IDO championships.
if you want a piece of that cake,
invest in ITG!
Also you would help this community in terms of training locations for Championships.

well i know that ITG is the preferred machine for all professional players, and this is ofcourse a big thing to consider.
I've just played ITG like 2 times, and did not like it that much, so it's kind of a hard choice... hmmm.

Hab also für meine persönlichen Interessen gestimmt oO

there is an other problem!
in germany there are extreme high taxes on arcade-machines.
...and yeah, ITG2 rocks EX

on buying them, or to let people use them? do you know how much i have to pay in tax on the money they gather?

afaik it is a "permanent" amount that you will have to pay.
dunno exactly if you must pay this taxes everywhere, or if there would be a chance to run a machine without paying anything (think this would be "illegal")

like a fee for just having the machine? do you have any idea (or do you think you could find out) how much this is?

yes, like a fee.
i dunno how much it is, but the "giga center" in köln, have to pay for the machines.
it is a big arcade-hall.
was it about ~100€ / month? or more?
schmichel might know it.
